Mossos d'Esquadra

The Catalan national police force is deployed throughout the country with the aim of setting the highest standards in policing

  • With the restoration of the Government of Catalonia and the approval of the Policia de la Generalitat Law (1994), the Mossos d'Esquadra went from being a disbanded police force to becoming one of the best in Europe
  • Today, the Catalan national police force is made up of 16,783 officers with a diverse set functions and areas of responsibility, from investigating crimes (Legal Police), to protecting civilians and maintain public order (Security Police) and ensuring that laws passed by the Parliament of Catalonia are observed (Administrative Police)
